Carwin Meets Nelson At Now-Official UFC 125

A heavyweight clash between “The Ultimate Fighter Season 10” winner Roy Nelson and former top contender Shane Carwin is official for UFC 125.

The news was announced on “UFC Ultimate Insider” earlier today.

Carwin is coming off a disappointing second round submission loss to heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 116 after dominating the champion in the opening frame. The loss was the first of Carwin’s career, which already features a highlight reel of knockouts.

Nelson, who is undoubtedly best known for his physique, jumped into the spotlight after a solid run on season 10 of “The Ultimate Fighter” and a knockout victory over Brendan Schaub in the season finale. The former IFL champion followed the victory with a knockout over Stefan Struve, but failed to overcome the striking prowess of Junior dos Santos in his most recent bout.

The heavyweight contest joins a lightweight championship bout between title-holder Frankie Edgar and the lone man to defeat him, Gray Maynard, which will serve as the main event of the January 1 card. Also on the card, lightweights Takanori Gomi and Clay Guida look for advancement in the highly competitive division. The event is set for Las Vegas, Nevada’s MGM Grand Garden Arena and will serve as the UFC’s first card of 2011.
