Mike Brown, Diego Nunes Face Off At UFC 125

Former WEC featherweight champion Mike Thomas Brown and Diego Nunes have agreed to square off at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day.

Heavy.com confirmed the news on Wednesday morning. MMAJunkie.com was the first to report the story.

UFC 125 takes place Jan. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a pair of championship fights. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo defends his new title against Josh Grispi in the co-main event, while UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar faces off against Gray Maynard in the main event.

The Brown/Nunes bout is expected to take place on the preliminary card.

Brown defeated the popular Urijah Faber to capture the WEC featherweight title. Brown defended the title against Leonard Garcia and Faber before losing the belt to Aldo. He last appeared at WEC 51, scoring a win over Cole Province.

Nunes has only lost once in his MMA career and has earned WEC victories over Province, Rafael Dias, Raphael Assuncao and Tyler Toner.
