It looks like Brendan Schaub will get his wish.
Heavy.com has confirmed that verbal agreements are in place for a heavyweight clash between Schaub and Frank Mir. MMAJunkie.com first reported the possibility of the bout on Monday morning.
Sources informed Heavy.com on Monday afternoon that the bout is likely to headline UFC on Versus 3 on March 3, but could ultimately switch to UFC 129 on March 19 as MMA Junkie originally reported.
Schaub challenged Mir after defeating Gabe Gonzaga at UFC 121 in October. Schaub told Heavy.com after the fight that he bears no ill will towards Mir, but merely wants to challenge the best heavyweights that the UFC has to offer.
Mir scored a third-round knockout of Mirko Cro Cop in the main event of UFC 119 in September. UFC President Dana White originally planned to match Mir up with former champion and nemesis Brock Lesnar for the rubber match in their trilogy, but fan outcry forced White to change his mind.
A welterweight bout between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann is also possible for UFC on Versus 3.
