UFC Returns To Brazil August 27

UFC President Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta announced this morning that the promotion will return to Brazil on August 27, 2011 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Joining White at the press conference in Rio were Anderson Silva, Mauricio Rua, Jose Aldo, Vitor Belfort and Royce Gracie.

“The one question I’ve gotten more than any other since we bought this company involves when we’re coming back to Brazil,” Fertitta said. “I’m happy to announce that we’re coming back and we’re going to bring a great card for the Brazilian fans.”

The last UFC event to be held in Brazil was October 16, 1998. Surprisingly enough, Belfort – who challenges Silva for the middleweight title in February – also participated on the card.

White said it’s way too early to determine who will participate on the card.

“This card isn’t until the end of August, but trust me, we’re going to bring some fights that will excite the fans down here,” White said. “There are a lot of Brazilian guys on our roster who are going to want to fight on this card.”
