Marquardt vs. Johnson expected for “UFC on Versus 4.”
MMAjunkie.com reported the news earlier today after learning that both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout.
Johnson is coming off a dominant unanimous decision victory over former top contender Dan Hardy to put him back in the win column. Prior to that fight, he was defeated by former top contender Josh Koscheck via submission in a bout marred with controversy.
Meanwhile, Marquardt has apparently abandoned 185 lb. title hunt, looking for a new opportunity at the 170 lb. mark. He last competed at UFC 128, defeating replacement opponent Dan Miller via unanimous decision on the pay-per-view card.
“UFC on Versus 4” is set for June 26 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a heavyweight tilt between Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo is set for the main card. Marquardt vs. Johnson could end up as a featured bout on the card.
