Alessio Sakara Tears ACL, Out of UFC 133

Sakara’s injury jinxes Rivera bout a third time

Somewhere out there, somebody does not want to see Jorge Rivera and Alessio Sakara fight each other.

Results of an MRI conducted on Sakara today revealed that the American Top Team fighter has torn his ACL and will be out for at least the remainder of 2011, if not longer, causing him to miss his bout with Rivera at UFC 133.

Rivera revealed the news while on Ariel Helwani’s radio show for MMAFighting.com today.

Rivera and Sakara were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 118, but Rivera suffered a broken arm and was forced to withdraw. The bout was slated again for UFC 122, but this time Sakara pulled out due to illness.

Rivera is currently scheduled to remain on the pay per view card for UFC 133, and a search for a potential replacement is under way.
