Catone, Simpson clash in Houston
A middleweight tilt between Nick Catone and Aaron Simpson has been added to UFC 136 this October in Texas.
UFC officials announced the bout on Monday night.
The bout will mark the second time that Catone has competed in 2011 after defeating Constantinos Philippou via unanimous decision at UFC 128 back in March in Newark, New Jersey. That fight came after a layoff of over one year and was his second win in a row. The other victory came against Jesse Forbes in January of 2010.
For Simpson, this bout will be his third of the year, and he will look to improve his record in 2011 to a perfect 3-0. His latest contest yielded a unanimous decision victory, as he defeated Brad Tavares via unanimous decision at UFC 132. Prior to that win, he earned a much needed victory over Mario Miranda in March, snapping a two-fight losing streak.
The two middleweights will meet on the preliminary card of the October 8 event. The card is headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard. The bout will be the two 155 lb. fighters’ third and final bout in a trilogy desperate for a clear outcome, though that may be hard to come by, especially considering their UFC 125 draw back in January.
