Few gave Ireland any hope of automatically qualifying for Euro 2016; the 54th ranked country in the world struggled in its last few campaigns and found themselves in a brutally tough group with World Cup winners Germany, Poland and Scotland.
But with one match remaining the Irish have a chance to complete a stunning rally with one match left in the group. It wont be an easy task, however. Ireland will be heavy underdogs heading into Poland to take on Robert Lewandowski and company.
The teams drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture as Shane Long grabbed a late equalizer. Shay Given will miss the rematch as he went off injured against the Germans.
Here is the Group D table after nine matches. The top two teams automatically qualify for the finals, while the third-placed team enters the playoffs.
