Manchester United will have to soldier on without Wayne Rooney as they travel to Denmark to face Midtjylland. United have never won Europa League in the club’s history, and this seaosn it may be the team’s best option to rejoin Champions League next season.
Rooney was fine after United’s 2-1 defeat to Sunderland, but on Thursday morning was declared out for at least six weeks with a knee injury. He’s one of several players to not travel with the team to Denmark, including Darmian (shoulder), Marouane Fellaini and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (ill).
Midtjylland won’t be intimidated by an English club, as they already bested Southampton over two legs earlier in the tournament. But Jess Thorup’s club will certainly be well-rested, as the Danish League has been on break since December.
Today’s match will be available on Fox Sports 2 in the US at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. UK viewers can watch the match on BT Sport Europe.
