Prediction

It was easy to doubt Chile heading into Copa America Centenario, but the haters have been quieted.

A 7-0 victory over Mexico has energized the Chileans, who entered the tournament on a 1-4 run of play. But after a narrow loss to Argentina in the opener, Chile have had success, winning three straight matches. And after watching Argentina dismantle the other teams in the tournament, a 2-1 loss doesn’t really look that bad.

For Colombia, performances started strong then tapered off. Los Cafeteros looked like contenders in their opening night win over USA, but limped into the knockout stages with a 3-2 loss to Colombia. Jose Pekerman’s squad advanced over Peru in the quarterfinals, but not after sweating out an intense scoreless draw followed by penalties.

These teams are familiar with each other, but neither has been able to take an edge in the matchup. In their last 15 meetings, the record is 5-5-5. They met for World Cup qualifying back in November, with James scoring in the second half to force a 1-1 draw.

Chile will be short-handed for Wednesday, as Arturo Vidal will serve a one-match ban for card accumulation. There’s no replacing a player like Vidal, but manager Juan Antonio Pizzi will be forced to alter his midfield that has looked so strong in three matches.

It’s going to be close, and it’s going to boil down to the two starting keepers. Bravo for Chile and Ospina for Colombia have both been outstanding, but Bravo has the stronger back line support to keep Chile aggressive up front.

Prediction: 2-1 Chile

Best Bet: Correct score 2-1 (+950)
