The LSU Tigers have entered a new era of football with head coach Lane Kiffin leading the way.
After a dramatic period of Kiffin rumors dominating the college football news cycle, LSU ended up landing the elite head coach. Ole Miss tried to keep him and the Florida Gators were involved as well, but Kiffin is now leading the charge for the Tigers.
One of his first priorities has been finding a new quarterback. Plenty of names have been connected to LSU, including popular options like DJ Lagway, Dylan Raiola, and Sam Leavitt.
That being said, the Tigers seem to be trending towards landing a commitment from one surprising transfer portal quarterback.
According to a report from On3 Sports college football insider Steve Wiltfong, LSU is trending towards getting Elon transfer Landen Clark.
“Elon quarterback Landen Clark is wrapping up his visit to LSU on Sunday and multiple sources continue to indicate that Lane Kiffin and the Tigers program is trending for the talented dual-threat passer,” Wiltfong wrote.
Wiltfong also noted that Clark is considering Michigan, Kentucky, and James Madison.
Who Is LSU Tigers Transfer Portal Target Landen Clark?
Clark is far from being a household name. Amid the connections to big college football names, the Tigers could end up going with a lesser-known option.
247 Sports currently has Clark rated as a three-star transfer portal quarterback.
During the 2025 college football season with Elon, Clark ended up completing 56 percent of his pass attempts for 2,321 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also ran for 614 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Bringing in a dual-threat quarterback like Clark could make a lot of sense for LSU. Kiffin would be able to get creative with him, much like Ole Miss did with Trinidad Chambliss.
Standing in at 6-foot-0 and a shade over 180 pounds, Clark is a bit undersized for an SEC quarterback. Playing for Elon certainly makes him an unproven commodity. It would be wise for the Tigers to continue looking at other quarterback options in addition to Clark if they do land him.
LSU Has Had a Rollercoaster Transfer Portal Experience
A coaching change always comes with roster movement. In the world of the transfer portal, players can easily choose to leave a program when the head coach changes.
Over 30 players have entered the transfer portal for LSU this offseason. Among the key departures were wide receiver CJ Daniels, defensive end Da’Shawn Womack, and defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell.
Kiffin has combatted some of those losses by adding players in the portal. Some of the players Kiffin has added include safety Ty Benefield, Clemson defensive tackle Stephiyian Green, wide receiver Jayce Brown, wide receiver Euguen Wilson, and running back Rod Gainey Jr.
Needless to say, Kiffin and the Tigers have their work cut out for them turning the program into a contender in 2026. However, he’s doing everything in his power to make that happen.
Adding a legitimate starting quarterback will be a must with Garrett Nussmeier heading off to the NFL. Clark could be that guy, although it would be a major risk for him to be the only quarterback addition in the portal.
