The PGA Tour playoffs will look a little different when the postseason tees off on Thursday, August 13. Jason Day missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship, but this is not the worst of the news.
By being unable to improve his spot in the PGA Tour playoffs standings, Day will not qualify for the postseason. With Day not included in the St. Jude Championship field of golfers, it snaps his streak of making the playoffs for 18 straight years.
“It was a good streak, obviously, but I would have loved to keep the streak going,” Day said of not making the postseason, per Golf Digest. “But things happen. You’re not going to keep everything going forever.
“Best to kind of take some time off, get my body sorted and try and come out next year and play well.”

Jason Day Did Not Qualify for the PGA Tour FedExCup Playoffs for the 1st Time in 18 Years
As a reminder, the top 70 golfers qualify for the first playoff tournament at the St. Jude Championship in Memphis. Day sits at no. 81 in the postseason standings heading into the weekend at the Wyndham Championship.
The top 50 golfers advance to the BMW Championship following the St. Jude Championship, while the top 30 athletes will compete at the Tour Championship to conclude the season. Day revealed that a back injury has once again been hampering his play.
“It’s just that my body’s sore,” Day remarked. “Like, it hurts to hit a shot. So to even put any energy into it hurts.
“I think it’s just hard because of how condensed the season is—they’re just forcing you to play. If not, then you’ve got to take time off, and there’s really nowhere to take time off.”

Day is not the only notable golfer projected to miss the playoffs. Keegan Bradley, Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau are also among the golfers on the outside looking in based on the FedExCup Playoffs standings heading into the final two rounds of the Wyndham Championship.
Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are among the top golfers who are not competing at the Wyndham Championship. Instead, the stars opted to rest and prepare for the start of the postseason at the St. Jude Championship.
McIlroy admitted that his focus has shifted to the majors rather than tournaments before the Tour Championship.
“There’s been years where I’ve given [the Tour] maybe more of my attention and years that I haven’t,” McIlroy said of his schedule, per Golf Channel. “Yeah, I guess I’m just at a stage that I have other things that I prioritize. Again, the PGA Tour is in a lot of flux at the minute with a lot of their schedule and structure and everything like that.
“So, I think the change where it doesn’t matter where you are in the top 30 going into the Tour Championship, it’s like I just need to be in the top 30 going in there to have a chance to win a FedEx Cup. So why would I care about the first two? I sort of came to that decision last year, and I’m just sort of doing the same thing.”
