The WM Phoenix Open is the next stop on the PGA Tour, taking place February 5-8 at its usual venue, the TPC Scottsdale. The field for the event includes several of the PGA Tour’s top stars, but two names stand out, albeit for different reasons: Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka.

Scottie Scheffler to Extend His Dominance at TPC Scottsdale

Scheffler comes into the WM Phoenix Open fresh off winning his season opener, the American Express. Not only that, but he also reached several milestones in his already illustrious career.

The Ridgewood, New Jersey native claimed his 20th PGA Tour victory at the Pete Dye Golf Course in La Quinta, California, becoming only the third player in history to reach that mark before the age of 30 (Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods). In addition, the $1.66 million winner’s check earned him a place in the select club of players with $100 million in on-course earnings, a group that only includes Woods and Rory McIlroy, now joined by Scheffler.

But, when it comes to dominance, it’s worth noting that Scheffler has achieved 14 of his 20 victories between 2024 and 2026, including three major championships. In the same period, he has played 40 PGA Tour tournaments without missing a single cut, and his most recent result outside the top 20 was at the 2024 BMW Championship (T33).

Amid such a streak of extraordinary results, TPC Scottsdale seems like the perfect setting for Scheffler to extend it. It is a venue where he has always done well, with two victories, two other top 10s, another top 25, and only one missed cut in six starts.

Scheffler won back‑to‑back starts twice in 2024 and once in 2025. A victory at the WM Phoenix Open would give him a third straight year of accomplishing that feat.

The Real Comeback of Brooks Koepka

Koepka has officially made his return to the PGA Tour, with a rather poor performance at the Farmers Insurance Open (T56). However, that shouldn’t have been a surprise, and many things could change at the WM Phoenix Open.

While the five-time major winner has always struggled at Torrey Pines, TPC Scottsdale is one of the venues where he has been most successful. Suffice it to say that he has never missed the cut there in five starts, with two wins and a third-place finish as his best results.

It should not be forgotten that the West Palm Beach, Florida, native has not enjoyed his best golf lately. His last LIV Golf season (2025) included only two top-10s in 13 events. He then played four tournaments on the European Tour, with a fourth-place finish at the Open de France as his best result.

But it’s also worth remembering that Koepka won five times in that same league, most recently in August 2024 (Greenbrier). In addition, he has won nine PGA Tour tournaments, including five major championships. Returning to a venue that has always brought out his best could help him tap back into his superstar form.

Time will tell.
