Rickie Fowler is not playing in this week’s Wyndham Championship, but things are looking up for the PGA Tour golfer at just the right time. Fowler is comfortably in the field of the top 70 golfers in the FedExCup standings.
This puts the star in the field for the FedEx St. Jude Championship as the PGA Tour’s playoffs begin on August 13, in Memphis.
As of Saturday, August 8, Fowler sits at No. 27 in the FedExCup Playoffs standings, which would not only put the star in the BMW Championship, but the golfer is projected to also make the Tour Championship.
The top 30 golfers following the St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship will advance to the Tour Championship to compete for the season’s title at East Lake in Atlanta.
There is still a lot of golf to be played, but Fowler has a chance to compete for a title trophy in a few weeks if the star can continue his solid recent form. Fowler finished T8 at the Rocket Classic.

Heading into the third round, Spieth sits at No. 53 in the FedExCup Playoffs standings. This would allow Spieth to make the St. Jude Championship, but the golfer has some work to do in order to advance to the BMW Championship.
Koepka faces a tall task to make the playoff field and will need some late heroics at the Wyndham Championship. Heading into the weekend, Koepka sits at No. 87 in the postseason standings and will need to make a sizable jump to qualify for the St. Jude Championship.
As a reminder, the top 70 golfers advance to the St. Jude Championship, while field is narrowed down to the top 50 golfers for the BMW Championship. The top 30 golfers following the first two playoff tournaments will advance to the Tour Championship.

During the most recent Rocket Classic, Fowler expressed confidence in his current form ahead of the PGA playoffs.
“I know where I’m at and all that,” Fowler noted on July 30, per PGA Tour. “Obviously would like to just play well and have a good week here.
“Play well this week, enjoy some days at home, rest up because it’s going to be a hot, sweaty, muggy run to the finish.”

Fowler’s fans are hoping for a long playoff run by the star. Whenever Fowler’s season ends, the star is expected to undergo sinus surgery, per PGA Tour Radio’s Doug Bell.
“He’s had a serious sinus infection for more than two years, and after this season concludes — they’ve tried all the antibiotics and medicine – they’re going to have to do surgery,” Bell noted, per The Mirror.
“He said he’s not looking forward to it and it really has held him back, and that’s kind of unknown. We didn’t know that about Rick.”
