Tommy Fleetwood will take home $10 million as the winner of the 2025 Tour Championship as part of a record $40 million prize purse, according to the PGA Tour. The tournament was played at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta from August 21 to August 25 and is the conclusion of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Fleetwood (-17), with longtime caddie Ian Finnis at his side, earned his first career victory on the PGA Tour with the win. He entered the FedEx Cup playoffs in ninth place in the standings. Fleetwood finished in a tie for third in the first tournament of the playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, surrendering a 2-shot lead down the stretch. He then finished in a tie for fourth at the BMW Championship. Fleetwood also overcame a heartbreaking loss at the Travelers Championship earlier in the season. The 34-year-old from England has seven career victories on the European Tour.
Scottie Scheffler entered the tournament in first place in the standings, but Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay held the lead heading into Sunday’s final round. Scheffler, Keegan Bradley, Russell Henley and Cameron Young were among those in contention during the fourth round of the Tour Championship.
Cantlay and Henley finished in a tie for second place, two shots behind Fleetwood, with Scheffler, Young and Corey Conners tied for fourth, three shots off the lead. Bradley, Justin Thomas and Sam Burns finished tied for seventh and Chris Gotterup and Ben Griffin tied for 10th.
In a major change from previous FedEx Cup playoff finales, all of the golfers started at even par. In past years, players had starting strokes based on their position in the standings. As part of the change, bonuses were awarded at the end of the regular season and after the first two playoff tournaments (the FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship) based on positioning in the standings.
The top 30 in the standings after the BMW Championship advanced to the Tour Championship. Every player in the field at East Lake will take home a massive paycheck. Second place will win $5 million, third place wins $3.75 million, fourth place wins $3.2 million and the prize for fifth place is $2.75 million. The golfer who finishes in 30th place will earn $355,000.

The Upcoming PGA Tour Fall Season Will Be an Opportunity for Golfers to Set Themselves Up for 2026
The PGA Tour will now head into the FedEx Cup fall season, which will allow golfers to position themselves for the 2026 season.
According to the PGA Tour, “Tournaments in the FedExCup Fall offer winners the same benefits as Regular Season events – including a two-year exemption on the PGA TOUR, 500 FedExCup points and spots in THE PLAYERS, The Sentry and those major championships that invite PGA TOUR winners. But the FedExCup Fall also is when top 100 eligibility, which provides exempt status into Full-Field Events and a spot in THE PLAYERS, is finalized for the following season.”
The PGA Tour added, “After the conclusion of the FedExCup Playoffs, players ranked 51st and beyond in the FedExCup will continue to compete for points in the fall. They will begin the fall with all points earned in the Regular Season and the first FedExCup Playoffs event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Additionally, the Aon Next 10 — the top 10 players on the FedExCup Points List at the conclusion of the FedExCup Fall who are not yet eligible for the Signature Events — will get into the two Signature Events following the season-opening The Sentry. This allows for trending players to emerge from the FedExCup Fall and test their skills against the game’s best.”
The PGA Tour will take a break for Labor Day, and the ProCore Championship will be played September 10 to September 14 at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California, to kick off the fall season. The eyes of the golf world will then turn to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26 to September 28.
