The Atlanta Braves are off to their best start since the 1800s. With a 25-10 record, the Braves have dominated everyone they’ve faced and are now being looked at as World Series contenders.
With trade speculation surrounding Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, could the Braves look to pull off a blockbuster deal this summer? Ronald Acuña Jr. has just been sidelined with a hamstring injury, and the Braves’ corner outfield spots now lack some depth.
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale recently reported that Jarren Duran could be one of the hottest commodities at this year’s trade deadline.

In this MLB mock trade idea by Heavy Sports, the Atlanta Braves offload starter Grant Holmes and prospect Owen Murphy to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for outfielder Jarren Duran.
It feels like Jarren Duran’s time in Boston could be coming to an end shortly. His name has floated around in trade speculation for several months, and with the Red Sox off to such a poor start this season, wholesale changes need to be made.
The Braves have received exceptional contributions from their starters all season, but this could be a good time to both buy low on Duran and sell high on Grant Holmes, who is likely Atlanta’s least effective starter. Duran was named to the All-Star team in 2024, and has led MLB in triples in both 2023 and 2024. However, Duran really hasn’t been productive this season, hitting just .186 with three home runs and five doubles in 113 at-bats, but surely there’s some positive regression in his swing.

Should the Braves Make this Trade?

Considering this hypothetical trade proposal is curated by me… Yes, this is a trade the Braves should consider making, and it hinges on the fact that the severity/ripple effect of Ronald Acuna Jr.’s hamstring injury is unknown.
Also, given the fact that Mike Yastrzemski has been mostly a bust to this point, it would be beneficial to Atlanta to add another corner outfielder to help bolster the group, and Duran (due to his lack of success this season) shouldn’t cost as much as he would have before the season.
Expect the Braves to continuously be linked to the biggest trade candidates, given their World Series aspirations this season.
And a package of Grant Holmes and Owen Murphy should suffice for the Red Sox, who need some pitching help at the moment.
