On Friday afternoon, the Chicago Cubs will open up a series with the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field.
They are coming off a series where they got swept (at home) by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Most recently, the Cubs lost (on Wednesday) by a score of 5-0.
Dansby Swanson had two strikeouts (and no hits) in three at-bats.

Swanson has gotten off to a slow start to the 2026 season.
He is batting .191 with 31 hits, seven home runs, 27 RBI’s, 30 runs, three stolen bases (and 42 strikeouts) in 48 games.
With Swanson struggling, it’s worth noting that he is still owed over $100 million by the Cubs (counting this season).
Robert Murray of FanSided wrote (on December 21, 2022): “Breakdown of Dansby Swanson’s seven-year, $177 million contract with the Chicago Cubs, per source: Signing bonus: $7 million. 2023: $13 million. 2024: $25 million. 2025: $27 million. 2026: $27 million. 2027: $27 million. 2028: $26 million. 2029: $25 million.”

Swanson was the first pick in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt.
He spent the first seven years of his career with the Atlanta Braves.
In that span, Swanson made one All-Star Game (and helped the franchise win the 2021 World Series over the Astros).

Swanson signed with the Cubs before the 2023 season.
He made the All-Star Game in his first year with the franchise, but he is only batting .239 over 503 games since the signing.
The Cubs will need the 32-year-old to get back to form if they want to make a deep run this season.

Cubs Right Now
The Cubs got off to a strong start to the season, but have been struggling as of late.
They are the second-place team in the National League Central with a 29-21 record in 50 games.
Over their last ten games, the Cubs have gone 2-8.
That said, they are 18-8 in the 26 games they have played at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
