The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the 2025 campaign with some pretty high expectations. After winning the 2025 World Series, the Dodgers spent big again during the offseason with the intention of repeating as champions this year. However, things haven’t exactly been easy for them, largely because of the number of injuries they have suffered throughout the season.

In particular, the Dodgers‘ pitching staff has been hit hard with injuries this season. The hope is that during the final month of the campaign, some of these guys can get healthy for the playoffs. However, with the calendar flipping to September, Los Angeles has received a tough injury update on relief pitcher Brock Stewart.

Dodgers Receive Tough Brock Stewart Injury Update

Stewart initially broke into the majors with the Dodgers back in 2016, but he struggled to cement a role in their bullpen during his time with the team. After getting released in 2019, Stewart was claimed by the Toronto Blue Jays, but his issues persisted. After spending two years out of the majors, Stewart latched on with the Minnesota Twins, where he built himself back up over the past few seasons.

With the Twins conducting a fire sale at the 2025 trade deadline, the Dodgers reunited with Stewart, due in large part to their bullpen being hampered by injuries. It didn’t take long for Stewart to get injured himself, too, though, as he appeared in just four games before he picked up a shoulder injury.

The initial hope was that Stewart wouldn’t have to miss much time on the injured list, but it looks like his stay on the sidelines will end up being longer than expected. According to manager Dave Roberts, Stewart was shut down from his throwing program after experiencing pain in his shoulder, but he has begun to ramp things up after receiving a cortisone shot.

Per Dodgers Dave Roberts — Brock Stewart still had shoulder pain when he started his throwing program,” Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. “Stewart was shut down following the cortisone shot has now resumed throwing. Still not ruling out return this season.”

Stewart only appeared in four games with the Dodgers before getting injured, posting a 4.91 ERA in 3.2 innings of work. Prior to that, Stewart enjoyed a strong start to the season with the Twins, posting a 2.63 ERA in 43 appearances with 44 strikeouts, so if he can find his way back on the mound, he should be able to make an impact for L.A.

For now, Roberts is continuing to piece together the pitching staff as the injuries continue to mount, and every move he makes will be important, as the Dodgers are holding a small two-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the National League West. Los Angeles will look to get back on track after suffering a series defeat against the Arizona Diamondbacks when they open a new series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
