With the MLB season fully underway, injury designations are pouring in left and right, and now is a good time to think about adding depth from the external market.
In a recent predictions piece, FanSided’s Christopher Kline predicts the Mets will sign DJ LeMahieu.

Should the Mets Sign DJ LeMahieu?
Kline believes that LeMahieu still has a little bit left in the tank to make a slight impact:
“The Yankees DFA’d DJ LeMahieu last winter after seven years. He’s 37 years old, but he’s also a three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner with serious pedigree. As a depth piece, nothing more and nothing less, LeMahieu is still worth a look. No team scoops up former Yankees quite so frequently as the crosstown Mets, who almost make it a point of pride.”
The Mets lack some infield depth, which makes LeMahieu a possibility, but it’s important to note his offensive stats have been very poor the last few seasons.
In 2025, LeMahieu hit .266 over 128 at-bats with 12 RBI and an OPS+ of 91. In 2024, he appeared in just 67 games and posted a brutal .204 average with an OPS+ of 52.

On Friday, a scary incident took place with Juan Soto and his calf. An MRI revealed a minor sprain of the calf, and the Mets will further assess Soto’s availability in the coming days.
On Saturday, the Mets announced the signing of Luke Jackson on a minor-league deal.
