The New York Mets started off their 2026 MLB season on a positive note on Thursday, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates by a final score of 11-7.
Following an extremely aggressive offseason, the Mets are widely considered to be a top-tier contender in the National League. From a pure talent perspective, they should be a World Series favorite.
Last offseason, New York spent big to bring in superstar outfielder Juan Soto. This year, the Mets made the moves to sign Bo Bichette and trade for both Luis Robert Jr. and Freddy Peralta. It’s clear that the franchise is going all-in on winning.
Over the last year, rumors have been swirling about New York possibly making a move for current Detroit Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal. At least for this offseason, the Tigers decided to keep him around.
Could that change in the future? A new prediction has been made about whether or not the Mets will find a way to bring him onboard.
New York Mets Land Major New Tarik Skubal Prediction
BetMGM took to social media to share their projections for the best pitchers in baseball in five years and where they’ll be playing. Skubal was on the list and was listed as being with New York.
Having a one-two punch of Skubal and Nolan McLean would be deadly for the Mets. It’s just a hypothetical situation, but it’s one that New York fans would love to see.
Also important to note, this list does not include when Skubal would be predicted to join the Mets. More than likely, a move by New York to bring him onboard would come before the five-year mark.
Only time will tell, but this is a dream scenario for the Mets.
Tarik Skubal Has Been a Force of Nature for the Tigers
Since coming into Major League Baseball back in 2020 with Detroit, Skubal has played at a level most pitchers can only dream of reaching. He has made 134 starts and appeared in 137 games, compiling a 54-37 record to go along with a 3.08 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, a 5.2 K/BB ratio, and 766.2 innings pitched.
At 29 years old, Skubal still has a lot of good baseball left ahead of him.
Leaving the Tigers would be a difficult decision for Skubal. He has become the face of the franchise, but competing for a World Series is likely becoming a bigger factor for him.
If given the opportunity to leave Detroit to join the Mets, it would be difficult to pass up. Skubal will remain a name watched closely as a potential trade candidate in years to come.
