On Saturday afternoon, the New York Yankees will be back in the Bronx for the second game of their series with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees are looking to clinch a series victory after taking the first game by a score of 3-1.

They are also in the middle of a five-game winning streak.

Sudden Stanton Update

The Yankees are in the middle of another series without Giancarlo Stanton, as the former MVP has been out since April 24.

There had been hope that Stanton would return soon.

That said, a big update was announced before Saturday’s game.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com wrote: “Giancarlo Stanton strained his other calf. He fell while running. Moderate grade strain, Aaron Boone said. He may be out for the season.”

Social Media Reacts

Here’s what people were saying about the news:

Jimmy Traina: “Games played as Yankee 158 18 23 139 110 101 114 77 24 For a DH who can’t run or play the field and has a $325 million contract. Most GMs would be fired for this debacle.”

Eric Hubbs: “Realistically wasn’t banking on Stanton being back. Guy’s just broken at this point. Wondering if that’s the last we’ve seen of him.”

Ryan Garcia: “I think people are being weirdly harsh to Giancarlo Stanton for…his body betraying him? I’m not sure what people want him to do about the fact that he’s injury-prone.”

@JakeAsman: “I think there’s a very good chance we’ve seen the last of Giancarlo Stanton as a Yankee. Great player. Incredibly clutch. Handled New York as well as anyone. But his body has betrayed him. You can’t justify a roster spot for someone you know will miss 130+ games a year.”

@YankeesFanEarl: “All of this will wait until the offseason but will be interesting to see what happens with Stanton 1)does he retire 2)if not, do the Yankees DFA him”

@newyorkgrooovee: “Loved Giancarlo Stanton as a Yankee. Great man. Had some legendary moments. That said, if this organization has any level of intelligence then Giancarlo Stanton has played his final game in pinstripes. His ability when healthy is no longer worth the possibility of having him in the postseason, keeping promising prospects out of the lineup, or passing on trades/free agents.”

@rationalyankee: “I have no understanding of how Giancarlo Stanton gets injured this much doing the most ordinary tasks that an athlete could ever have to perform. I’m so used to it at this point that it obviously doesn’t surprise me even a little bit. But I feel like it should. And it’s sad. Because I think these injuries are likely to keep Stanton out of the Hall of Fame. Going to be hard for him to get to 500 HRs if he’s out for months every time he tweaks something trying to run the bases.”

@eyyankees: “Losing Giancarlo Stanton isn’t as bad as some people may think. Assuming everyone gets healthy, the DH spot can be a revolving door between Rice, Goldschmidt, Garcia, and Jones depending on the starter. Yanks will have their options. Getting Judge & Bellinger back was always the goal.”

@YankeeReport_: “Giancarlo Stanton led all players in the 2024 postseason with 7 home runs. Truly a magical October 🥹”
