On Saturday, the New York Yankees will be back in action when they host the Toronto Blue Jays in the Bronx.

They are coming off a 3-1 victory on Friday (and have won five in a row).

That said, the team announced a significant update on Giancarlo Stanton ahead of the game.

Jorge Castillo of ESPN wrote: “Giancarlo Stanton suffered a “moderate grade” strain to his left calf, his other calf, Aaron Boone said. Boone said he fell running the bases. While Boone didn’t rule Stanton out for the rest of the season, he acknowledged it’s going to be “challenging” for him to return in time.”

Following the news, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com shared the details of Stanton’s remaining contract.

Hoch wrote: “Giancarlo Stanton is earning $29 million this season and is owed $25 million for 2027. His contract – initially signed with the Marlins in November 2014 – includes a $25 million club option for the 2028 season, which carries a $10 million buyout. The Marlins are in the process of paying the Yankees $30 million to offset the deal – $10 million annually in 2026, ’27 and ’28.”

Here’s what people were saying in the comments:

@ARJ_realone: “Release him, eat the contract just like we did to Tex and Arod”

@JBoss_: “So releasing him this offseason would only cost the Yankees $15M?”

@SteveFrWaltham: “With the impending lockout, he’s probably played his last game as a Yankee. Sad.”

@TechBaseGaming: “Literally one of the most clutch Yankees of most recent memory and they completely wasted him. 😭😭”

@SiriuslyMedia: “Imagine earning millions to not play… Reminds me of Jacoby Ellsbury 😑😑😑”
