“I feel like Ricky Pearsall, Drew Gilbert, and Brandin Podziemski should do a podcast together.”
It was a simple, out of left field post from screenwriter and sports fan George Grotheer, a guy with 425 followers and a dream.
As it turns out, hundreds of sports fans on X agree with Grotheer, including possibly…Podziemski himself?
The 22-year old Golden State Warriors guard reposted Grotheer’s post on X with a simple, cryptic laughing emoji.
Will the trio ever make any kind of content together, let alone a podcast?
Only time will tell. But Grotheer’s idea has reached Podziemski, which is half the battle. And clearly, hundreds of Bay Area sports fans would tune in to it.
Why This Trio?
For fans outside of the Bay Area, the trio of Pearsall, Gilbert and Podziemski on a podcast probably makes no sense on paper.
Pearsall is a second year wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers that has only 564 career receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.
Gilbert has played in only 27 big league games for the San Francisco Giants, and is hitting at only a .225 clip.
And Podziemski is a role player on the Warriors who averaged 11.7 points per game for Golden State last season.
None of these guys have the star power or name recognition to give the podcast wider appeal in the sports world. Nobody even knows if the three of them know each other. So why would so many diehards be immediately tuned in to the first episode of a podcast featuring this trio?
They just have a similar, entertaining energy. Podz has become something of a Bay Area icon for his flashes of potential as well as his energy throughout Bay Area events, most famously on the sideline for the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries games.
Pearsall has won the hearts of 49ers fans for the way he has rebounded from a shooting that sidelined him before he could catch his first NFL pass last season.
And Gilbert is the ultimate wild card, biting on teammates jerseys and celebrating home runs with a wild look in his eye.
They’re three young, up and coming players from across the Bay Area sports landscape who have an energy and edge to them that represents what the Bay Area sports scene is all about.
It’s honestly the perfect trio for a podcast. All credit to @flowficcial for the idea.
If Not A Podcast, Could They Appear In Something Else?
Another X user called Reff Van Gundy responded to Grotheer’s post with another interesting idea for Podzmiemski, Pearsall and Gilbert.
“We don’t need this podcast, but they’d be great doing ads and promos together,” Reff Van Gundy wrote.
Admittedly, this is also a good idea. They’d be a fun trio for a “This is SportsCenter” style skit for a Bay Area company looking to partner with a sports team for a television advertisement.
But the best idea for this trio may also be the biggest.
Back on September 9, 2025, famous ESPN football personality Pat McAfee, after learning of Gilbert’s antics and finding out he’s a former Tennessee Volunteer, declared that he wants to have Gilbert as a guest picker on College GameDay.
Why not bring Pearsall and Podz along for the ride? Pearsall is also a former SEC star from the University of Florida. Podz doesn’t have SEC credentials to his name (he finished off his college career at Santa Clara), but he’d make up for it with his energy. Maybe McAfee could convince him to represent the University of Illinois, where he attended and played his freshman year.
What do you think, Bay Area sports fans? Does this trio have media stardom in their future?
