The San Francisco Giants announced their starting lineup before Friday’s game against the Red Sox.

Looking at Rafael Devers With the Giants
The San Francisco Giants traded for the former Red Sox slugger last year on Jun. 15.
The Giants moved left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks, former No. 4 prospect James Tibbs III and minor leaguer Jose Bello to acquire Devers.
San Francisco moved the longtime third baseman to first base because Gold-Glove winner Matt Chapman locked down the hot corner.
Devers recorded 20 home runs and 51 RBIs in 90 games with the Giants last season. But his batting average was down from .272 in 73 games with the Red Sox to .236 with the Giants that year.
His OPS also dropped nearly 100 points with the Giants. The infielder had a .905 OPS with Boston last season to .807 with San Francisco.
The now first baseman/designated hitter has continued to show off his power with the Giants this season. Devers leads the team in HRs with 25 and RBIs with 69. He is currently slashing .244/.320/.470.

Looking Back At Rafael Devers’ Career With the Red Sox
Devers quickly became one of the Red Sox’s best positional players when he debuted with the team in 2017. He tallied three All-Star appearances and two Silver Slugger awards in 8 seasons with Boston.
The Red Sox and Devers agreed to an 11-year, $331 million contract extension that would keep him with the team through the 2033 season.
But his relationship with the Red Sox organization became sour after the team signed Alex Bregman in the 2025 offseason to play third base. Devers only played third base outside of two appearances at second during his Red Sox career.
He started all 73 games at designated hitter during the 2025 season before Boston traded him to San Francisco. The Giants took on all of Devers’ contract.

The San Francisco Giants hold a 52-75 record (23-42 away) entering their road series against the Red Sox. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games.
The Giants currently own the second-worst record in the National League and fourth-worst overall.
After concluding their series against Boston on Sunday, the Giants will return to Oracle Park for a seven-game homestand. They face the Cincinnati Reds for a three-game set before a four-game series against NL West division rival Arizona Diamondbacks.
