The Toronto Blue Jays are in the midst of a playoff push, and fan-favorite Ernie Clement made a major personal announcement.
Toronto is coming off a series sweep of the Seattle Mariners and had an off day on Monday before beginning a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Blue Jays are chasing the Guardians for the final Wild Card spot, so the series is massively important.
First pitch for Game 1 of the series on Tuesday is set for 6:40 p.m. ET.
Ernie Clement Gets Engaged
Ahead of the Blue Jays’ pivotal series against the Guardians, Clement and his longtime girlfriend Stefanie Brejcha got engaged.
The couple hadn’t made the announcement, but former Blue Jays teammate Joey Loperfido’s fiancée, Faith, shared an Instagram story of a FaceTime with Brejcha showing off the ring.

Clement and Brejcha hard-launched their relationship in January 2024, though they have been rumored to be a couple dating back to Clement’s time with Cleveland in 2022.
Brejcha attended Kent State University and grew up in Mentor, Ohio.
As for Clement, the Blue Jays fan favorite is hitting .276 with 9 home runs and 43 RBIs this season. However, he has struggled as of late, as he’s hitting .083 in his last 7 games.
Clement was named the starting second baseman for the American League in the All-Star Game this season.
Blue Jays Right Now
Toronto is set to kick off a pivotal three-game series against the Guardians on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays are 1.5 games behind the Guardians for the final Wild Card spot. Toronto will start Spencer Miles on Tuesday as an opener, with Spencer Arrighetti getting the bulk of the innings.
Toronto is coming off a series sweep over the Mariners, where Max Scherzer turned back the clock in the series finale.
“This is what you play for, this is what’s fun,” Scherzer said of Toronto’s playoff push. “When you’re in the hunt, you have to win. The pressure is on. You have to go out there and do something about it. I love these moments. We’re in a fight and we have to fight all the way until the end.”
The Blue Jays, meanwhile, needed to get hot, as manager John Schneider said the team is already playing playoff baseball.
“We’ve been saying we’re playing post-season games the last three weeks,” said Schneider. “It’s kind of right there in front of us, so you got to enjoy the off day and rest up and be ready to just keep your foot on the gas.”
The Blue Jays enter play on Tuesday with a record of 68-70.
