Brandon Williams had a nice year for the Dallas Mavericks.

The bodycam video showing the arrest of Dallas Mavericks guard Brandon Williams for marijuana possession last October has been released.

Williams was arrested on October 25, 2025, at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) after approximately 1.5 ounces of marijuana were found in his suitcase during a screening by TSA. He was then arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana under two ounces. Williams ended up missing two games for the Mavericks, returning to the team for their game on October 29.

Now, more than six months after Williams was arrested, the bodycam footage was released for the public to view. NYDETECTIVE on YouTube has the full arrest video, which you can watch below.

Brandon Williams Took Full Responsbility for His Arrest

When Williams was arrested, he took full responsibility when he was asked about what happened.

“I can’t really go into further detail,” Williams said at the time (via ESPN). “I just want to apologize for just being a distraction. I want to take full accountability.”

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said that Williams had recently lost a close friend of his, not long before his arrest for marijuana possession, something which the player mentioned to the officers in the bodycam video. Between his personal loss and his run-in with officers, it was a tough time in Williams’ life.

Brandon Williams Was a Bright Light for the Mavericks This Year

Despite the brief distraction his arrest brought to himself and the team, Williams was one of the best players for the Mavericks this year.

Playing in 66 games, including 15 starts, the 26-year-old Williams posted a career-high 13 points per game with the Mavericks while shooting .472 from the field. He also added 2.9 rebounds per game and 3.9 assists per game in his third season in Dallas.

Williams was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona by the Portland Trail Blazers, for whom he played 24 games in his rookie season in 2021-2022. He did not play in the NBA in 2022-2023, but signed with the Orlando Magic after that season. However, he was waived before ever suiting up in a game for the Magic, and then he caught on with the Mavericks after that. He has been a member of the Mavericks organization ever since.

The former two-way player earned $2,270,735 on a standard NBA contract this year and will become a free agent this offseason. The Mavericks like him, so there is certainly a chance the team brings him back to be a bench guard for them again next season. However, he may test his luck in free agency and see what other teams will be interested. Despite his poor 3-point shooting this year, he is still a very talented passer and scorer, and could help out a lot of NBA teams from their benches.

Overall, Williams has played in 140 NBA games, averaging 10.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks on .450/.280/.775 shooting percentages in 19.3 minutes per game in his career. He has proven over the last few years to be a valuable member of the Mavericks, and it will be interesting to see his next move.
