Year one for Michael Porter Jr. on the Brooklyn Nets has come to a close.
Although the Nets have some time left in the regular season, they made the early call to shut down Porter for the remainder of the run.
The former Denver Nuggets star has been dealing with a hamstring injury. It’s unclear if a competitive situation would’ve allowed Porter to return to action, but the state of the Nets makes it clear that it’s in Porter’s best interest to take the rest of the year off.

The Last Time Porter Played For The Nets
Porter’s final game happened on March 10. The Nets hosted the Detroit Pistons, and the veteran forward checked in for 22 minutes.
During that time, Porter shot 7-14 from the field, making just one of his six shots from beyond the arc. He produced 19 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal during his shift.
After that game, the Nets had Porter on a week-to-week basis. He ended up missing 12 games in a row. The Nets officially ruled out Porter for the remainder of the year, before they faced the Atlanta Hawks.
Michael Porter Jr. Starred In Post-Nuggets Era
Throughout the first six seasons of his career, Porter Jr. averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.
The sharpshooter knocked down 50.0% of his shots from the field and hit on 40.6% of his threes.
After getting traded to the Nets, Porter’s usage increased. As a result, he put up All-Star-caliber numbers. The veteran forward produced 24.2 points (46.3% FG, and 36.3% 3PT), while coming down with 7.1 rebounds per game, and producing 3.0 assists per game.
The Nets’ plans for Porter Jr. next season are unclear. Heading into the 2026 NBA trade deadline, Porter had a lot of interest from contenders. Next season, Porter is going to play on an expiring $40.8 million deal.
