Latest Giants News
Darius Slayton : Seeking new deal
Slayton (thumb) hasn't reported to the Giants' voluntary workouts while he seeks a contract extension, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Slayton, who led the team with 770 receiving yards in 17 games in 2023, has attended the Giants' voluntary offseason program in the past. The 27-year-old wideout is in line to earn $6.2 million in the final year of his contract in 2024, but Slayton is evidently looking to amend those terms. At this stage, Slayton -- who is recovering from an offseason procedure on his right thumb -- is poised to retain a key role in a Giants wideout corps that currently includes Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt.
Nick McCloud : Stays in the Big Apple
McCloud (back) re-signed with the Giants on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. McCloud finished his 2023 campaign on the sidelines after getting injured in the team's season finale against the Eagles. Healthy now, the Notre Dame product can focus on being ready for a third campaign in New York after signing his free-agent tender.
Daniel Jones : Hopes to be fully cleared for camp
Jones noted Monday that he hasn't had any setbacks in his recovery from Nov. 22 surgery to address a right ACL tear, Darryl Slater of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. The report adds that Jones says he's past the neck issue that he dealt with last season prior to hurting his knee, indicating that it was just a stinger. At this stage, the QB is throwing and intends to participate in spring practices in some fashion, with Jones adding that he's aiming be fully cleared for the start of training camp. When healthy, Jones is in line to reclaim his starting role for the Giants, who added fellow signal-caller Drew Lock in free agency and also have Tommy DeVito in the roster. Moreover, it's possible that the team adds depth at the position in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Matthew Adams : Inks deal with G-Men
The Giants signed Adams on Friday. The 28-year-old veteran linebacker has 85 games of experience under his belt. Adams played in all 17 games for the Browns last season and has also spent time with the Bears and Colts during his six-year career. He's a capable depth linebacker who excels on special teams.
Jordan Phillips : Picked up by the Giants
The Giants signed Phillips (wrist) on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Phillips spent the last two years of his career with the Bills, and he'll stay in New York after agreeing to terms with the Giants on Thursday. The veteran defensive lineman has appeared in 26 games over the past two seasons, recording 35 total tackles, including 4.0 sacks, while also deflecting seven passes. Phillips missed the Bills' final five games last year after sustaining a wrist injury, but once he's able to return to the field, he is expected to serve as one of the Giants' top rotational defensive lineman.
Miles Boykin : Signed by Big Blue
The Giants signed Boykin on Tuesday. In 17 regular-season games while working as a reserve wideout for the Steelers in 2023, Boykin caught three of his four targets for 17 yards. With the Giants, the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder will provide size and added depth to the squad's wide receiver corps, while also potentially adding value as a core special-teamer.
Isaiah Simmons : Stays with New York
The Giants re-signed Simmons to a one-year contract Friday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports. In his first year with the team, Simmons recorded 50 tackles, a sack and an interception that he returned for a touchdown in 17 regular-season games. Now that he's been re-signed, the 2020 first-rounder -- who arrived in New York via a trade with Arizona last August -- will reprise his versatile role in the Giants defense, where his ability to play either safety or linebacker is an asset to the unit.
Daniel Jones : Expected to start once healthy
Coach Brian Daboll isn't sure if Jones (knee) will be ready for Week 1 but told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Saturday that Jones will be "the guy" at quarterback once he's able to play. Daboll made it clear Drew Lock was signed as a backup, though that may entail dominating first-team reps throughout spring practices and into training camp. There's a potential complication for both Jones and Lock in the form of the upcoming NFL Draft, with New York picking sixth overall and perhaps considering a quarterback. On the other hand, an early pick could mean significant help for Jones, as popular mock draft matches at No. 6 include LSU WR Malik Nabers and Notre Dame OT Joe Alt. There are a number of potential hurdles for Jones this upcoming season, starting with his ongoing rehab from Nov. 22 surgery on a torn ACL. Later in the season, future injury guarantees in his contract could end up impacting the Giants' decision on who to start at quarterback, as was the case for Denver and Russell Wilson in 2023.
