The Kansas City Chiefs will kick off the 2025 season in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday night, as they will be going up against their AFC West rival, the Los Angeles Chargers. Even though it’s only Week 1, this is a big game for the Chiefs, largely because of the fact that the last time we saw them on the field, they got destroyed by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

A 40-22 defeat certainly wasn’t the result Kansas City was hoping for, but that hasn’t deterred the team from its quest to return to the top of the mountain. If you ask former Pro Bowl running back Fred Taylor, he believes that the Chiefs have a very good shot at once again winning the AFC and returning to the Super Bowl.

Fred Taylor Issues Chiefs Super Bowl Prediction

Since Mahomes took over as the Chiefs‘ starting quarterback in 2018, they have consistently been the team to beat in the AFC. In his first seven seasons, Mahomes has made it to the Super Bowl five times, winning on three occasions. For much of that stretch, the Chiefs have simply felt inevitable, but that all came crashing down against the Eagles.

For the first time in years, there’s some doubt surrounding Kansas City. Yes, they made it to the Super Bowl last year, but they weren’t exactly the dominant force they had been in previous years. Mahomes looked mortal for once, and his supporting cast, particularly on offense, left a lot to be desired.

The front office worked hard on building this roster back up over the offseason, and while they aren’t the favorite to win the Super Bowl, they remain one of the scariest teams in the league. When speaking with Hard Rock Bet, Taylor made it clear he is not looking past the Chiefs because of one bad loss, as he believes they will return to the Super Bowl this year.

It’s hard to go against the Kansas City Chiefs,” Taylor said. “They’ve been rebuilding. Their receivers, young guys a year ago, I think they’ve just gotten better. They’re going to continue to get better. And Patrick Mahomes, you can’t count him out … I’ll go back with the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid, Pat Mahomes, they’re always close (if not winning it).”

The Chiefs have proven that no matter what, they simply cannot be counted out. Sure, they won’t win every game, but more often than not, they are going to find a way to prevail. That train of thought is especially prevalent as we head into the 2025 campaign, because this team is going to be eager to prove to the world that they are still the best team in the league.

That’s going to be easier said than done, especially with the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and Cincinnati Bengals all set to give Kansas City a run for its money in the AFC. Taylor knows that there are some concerns surrounding the Chiefs, but at the end of the day, he’s going to ride with Mahomes and company until someone in the AFC proves they can beat them.
