The Minnesota Vikings‘ situation at QB looks even more cloudy at best with the firing of Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as the team’s general manager. As a result, speculation over what type of signal-caller the Vikings could pursue to challenge J.J. McCarthy for the starting job, or at the very least, a reliable backup.

With free agency nearing and teams making tough decisions on players, whether they can trade or need to release them. As a result, there could be ways for the Vikings to find either a QB2 or one that can compete with McCarthy for the QB1 spot.

On Feb. 2, former NFL player Domonique Foxworth stated that if the Arizona Cardinals cut Kyler Murray, Minnesota should be a landing spot for the former No. 1 overall pick.

“I still think he’s incredibly talented,” Foxworth said during an appearance on “Get Up.” “Of course, he’s uniquely built to play quarterback, which isn’t always good, but I think he’s a guy that, in the right situation, could help out a lot.

“I really like the Vikings as a spot where they could get someone like Kyler Murray to take some of the pressure off of him. I don’t think that the Cardinals have been a particularly well-run organization. And that’s not to take responsibility away from Kyler.”

Vikings Could Benefit From a Kyle Murray Move

Moreover, while the Cardinals have their issues, Foxworth does note that Murray getting cut would be a wake-up call for the QB. As a result, the Vikings could benefit from this move as the player looks to salvage his career as a starting signal-caller.

“I think some of this has to do with him maturing as a player, which I think he will, Foxworth added. “And finding a new team, sometimes it’s a wakeup call that players need to kind of fulfill their potential. So, I think Kyler Murray’s career is far from over, given his athleticism and arm strength. It’s just, we just hope that he ends up in the right spot so he can fulfill his potential.”

Could the Vikings Trade J.J. McCarthy?

With Minnesota aiming to compete immediately, the bigger question is whether the front office is looking for a quarterback who can help them win now. As a result, the question is whether McCarthy could be available for the right price.

WFAN’s Evan Roberts recently floated the idea that the New York Jets should consider asking Minnesota about McCarthy if the Vikings are open to trading him this offseason.

“While I’m not the biggest J.J. McCarthy fan, I don’t know who is at this point, but he’s a winner, Roberts said in a video posted by WFAN on Jan. 30. “He won in college, and he’s also young. He’s also not fully damaged goods. You know what I mean? Yes. He hasn’t really gotten the full opportunity.

“So what pick would I trade? I’m not trading one of my ones. I don’t think I need to either. I think a third‑round pick would get it done; I would be very intrigued by that. And again I say that as someone that isn’t even high on J. J. McCarthy, but it goes back to your point of, what are the other options right now [for the Jets]?”
