The Minnesota Vikings are regrouping after their first loss of the season to the Detroit Lions in Week 8. The team is 6-1, but the vibe around the fanbase makes you think the sky is falling.
Perhaps there’s a point to the panic. Minnesota’s offense has been completely anemic to begin the year. The glaring issue is that this isn’t a new thing under Kevin O’Connell. The Vikings’ offense has been completely missing since Week 17 of 2024. Through J.J. McCarthy, Carson Wentz, Max Brosmer, and now Kyler Murray, the signs of life have been minimal in the once-electric unit.
It’s clear that if there’s one thing keeping the Vikings from being true contenders, it’s the offense. Faith isn’t super high in the team, and any that exists is mainly in the defense.
Perhaps there is too much panic amongst Vikings fans during the 6-1 start?
Vikings ‘Can’t Sweat’ 6-1 Start, But It’s Justified to Worry

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report recently placed every team on a ten-point “panic meter” scale. For the Vikings, it wasn’t as high a score as many fans would come up with themselves. Gagnon put them right in the middle at a 5 out of 10.
“Can’t sweat too much when you’re 6-1, but with the three above teams giving chase and the schedule toughening up, there’s plenty of reason to remain guarded. Plus, a lot of Vikings fans are likely unconvinced Kyler Murray is the guy.”
Sure, the Vikings are 6-1, but there are clear worries on the team. As mentioned, the offense has yet to show up this season. The fantastic record is completely on the backs of Brian Flores’ defense.
Minnesota may look to use the trade deadline to bolster the offense. At the end of the day, the Vikings are 6-1, and there isn’t reason to panic yet. However, Gagnon’s choice of the word “guarded” is a smart one.
Minnesota “Remains” In Jonathan Taylor Contention

Jonathan Jones of The Athletic shared his latest findings on the Jonathan Taylor situation on Saturday morning.
“It would be a surprise if the Indianapolis Colts, win or lose this weekend, held on to running back Jonathan Taylor.
The Vikings and Giants remain, according to my sources, the favorites to land Taylor. The Seahawks, Packers, and Broncos are also in the mix, though I haven’t gotten the impression that the latter two would be willing to buy high on Taylor.”
It seems clear that the Colts are holding out for a first-round selection. If that’s the case, it’s hard to love the Vikings making that move. They could find it worth it, however. If they believe that defense and the run game can win a championship, it’s a move they’ll strongly consider.
