Steelers Now's Alan Saunders reported the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted former Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Gabriel Murphy for a visit Friday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are about the host a bunch of head coaching candidates this month. But that doesn’t mean free agent visits have stopped for the team.

Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders reported Friday the Steelers hosted outside linebacker Gabriel Murphy for a visit. Murphy appeared in three contests for the Minnesota Vikings the past two seasons.

As an edge rusher, Murphy is undersized. But he displayed tremendous speed during the pre-draft process two years ago.

“In pre-draft testing, Murphy showed elite speed, but is significantly undersized compared to most edge rushers. He ran a 4.68-second 40-yard dash and posted a 39.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-3 broad jump for an overall 9.27 Relative Athletic Score, despite height and weight in the 28th and 22nd percentile for edge rushers,” wrote Saunders.

“His speed and lack of size might make Murphy a potential candidate to move to an off-ball linebacker role. He is one inch shorter and one pound heavier than current Steelers inside linebacker Malik Harrison.”

In three contests with the Vikings, Murphy posted 1 combined tackle and 1 quarterback hit. As a rookie during 2024, he played 35 defensive snaps and six snaps on special teams.

This past season, Murphy lined up for five defensive snaps and 13 special teams snaps.
