Second-round rookie safety Bud Clark needed a cart to leave the field in Nashville for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. But that wasn’t the only bad injury update Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald gave the media after Week 2 in the preseason.
Macdonald added that second-year offensive lineman Mason Richman also has an injury. The prognosis doesn’t sound good.
“We’re going to try to figure out what’s going on with Mason, but we also think that’s a major injury — a long-term injury,” said Macdonald to reporters in his postgame press conference.
“Two guys that we love that play our style of ball that are our type of guys. Teammates love them. Great teammates, great guys, great football players. They have great futures. It’s a heartbreaker, honestly.”
Richman started at left guard Sunday night, which was the NFL’s final game of Week 2 in the preseason. The second-year lineman sustained an injury on the first drive of the contest.
Richman appeared in two regular season games last season. He played just one snap on offense and 11 on special teams. Richman also dressed for the NFC championship game.
The Seahawks drafted the lineman at No. 234 overall in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Richman wasn’t currently projected to start for the Seahawks this season. But guard is one of the team’s weak spots. Richman was also a player potentially on the ascend.
The true nature of his injury remains unknown. But it doesn’t sound like he will be ready to play again soon.
Richman spent five seasons of college football at Iowa. He appeared in 55 games, starting 52 contests at left tackle.
Last preseason, Richman played all over the Seahawks offensive line. This preseason, all of his offensive snaps were at left guard.
In Week 1 of the exhibition campaign, he lined up for 37 snaps on offense.
Going into Week 2 of the preseason, the Seahawks had Grey Zabel and Anthony Bradford listed as their starting guards. Richman and Christian Haynes were on the team’s depth chart with the second-team offense at guard.
Bryce Cabeldue and Beau Stephens were the third-team offensive guards.

The bigger Seahawks injury news during the game Sunday night was on defense. Clark, who Seattle selected at No. 64 overall in the second round, fell to the turf and immediately called for assistance during the first quarter.
Clark left the field on a cart with what appeared to be an air cast around his leg. Macdonald told reporters the safety suffered a broken ankle.
The head coach said the true severity was unknown, but he added Clark would be out “multiple months.”
The Seahawks appeared to be planning for the rookie safety to be a major part of their secondary this season. On Seattle’s depth chart, Clark was listed as a second-team safety entering Sunday.
Clark played six seasons at TCU during college. He appeared in 61 games, posting 214 combined tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss, 21 pass defenses, 15 interceptions and one sack.
