Belinda Bencic’s Wimbledon Cinderella Story continued on Wednesday as the Swiss star secured a straight-set win over No. 7-seeded Mirra Andreeva (7-6, 7-6).
Throughout the match, Bencic showed her composure in big moments, edging out a hard-fought tiebreak in both sets to secure her first Grand Slam semifinal appearance since giving birth.
After the match, a speechless Bencic, who began the 2025 season ranked 489 in the world, spoke to those in attendance during her on-court interview:
“It’s crazy, it’s unbelievable. It’s a dream come true. … I’m just speechless. It’s just my second semifinal of a Grand Slam overall and the first one at Wimbledon. Just speechless. So happy.
“I’m very proud, actually. All my career, I didn’t say it a lot to myself, but after having Bella, I really say it to myself every day.”

With her win on Wednesday, Bencic is now up to No. 20 in the world on the WTA’s live rankings.
Belinda Bencic’s QF Win Sets the Stage for SF Meeting with Iga Światek
Following impressive wins over Ekaterina Alexandrova in the fourth-round, and Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals, Belinda Bencic will now meet former World No. 1 Iga Światek in the semifinal round on Thursday.
While Światek is primarily known as a clay court specialist, the five-time Grand Slam champion has continued to impress at SW19.
En route to the semifinals, Światek has dropped just one set all tournament, and on Tuesday, the Polish star picked up a big win (6-2, 7-5) over Liudmila Samsonova, punching her ticket to the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in her career.
While speaking in her on-court interview after Wednesday’s win, Światek spoke candidly about the gravity of the moment:
“It feels great, even though I’m in the middle of the tournament I already got goosebumps after this win. I’m super happy and super proud of myself.”
You can see her comments in response to the first question in the video below.
Previewing the WTA Wimbledon 2024 Final
As Światek touched on during her on-court interview, this year’s Wimbledon schedule is a bit different than players are accustomed to.
While Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova, who both emerged victorious from their quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, had today off, Światek and Bencic will play their semifinal match tomorrow on Centre Court without having an off-day to rest.
Światek currently leads the head-to-head 3-1, with three straight wins over Bencic. In their most recent meeting, however, two of the three sets went to a tiebreak, which could be something to keep an eye on heading into their semifinal match tomorrow.
Whoever emerges victorious will then collide with the winner of the Sabalenka-Anisimova match in the final on Saturday, Jul. 12.
Currently, Amanda Anisimova leads the head-to-head with World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 5-3, however, Sabalenka has won two of their last three meetings, including a fourth-round meeting at the French Open this year.
At the time of publication, both Światek and Sabalenka are sitting as comfortable betting favorites on FanDuel ahead of their respective matches.
