WATCH: 15 Minutes of Gloriously Dark ‘Vampyr’ Gameplay

Bloodthirsty to see more from Dontnod’s vampire-themed upcoming RPGVampyr? We’ve got you covered.

This morning, developer Dontnod released our very first Vampyr gameplay trailer showcasing the game’s upcoming environments, RPG elements, and overall vibe of the game — which appears to be incredibly dark. It is important to note that the PR email blasts noted that this is “still very early in their development process”, so we can’t help but wonder why Dontnod would decide to showcase gameplay so early.

An interesting mechanic shown in the trailer is choosing on whom to feed and how it will affect the game world around you. It creates an interesting internal struggle with killing innocent blood-filled people around you in order to survive. Also, if you choose to feed on low-quality blood from, say, a sick person, it won’t do much for you. Killing too many people in the environment around you could cause some elements in the world to collapse. Do you want to kill those useful NPCs for a quick feed, or do you want to hunt down local criminals and take them out? It’s an interesting proposition, and one that Dontnod says will impact your playthrough of Vampyr.

We don’t know much else about Vampyr for now, but expecting anything less than a quality game from Dontnod at this point wouldn’t be warranted, given the highly underrated Remember Me and their most recent, Life is Strange. The game looks to be a much darker take on the vampire genre than we’re used to with games like Legacy of Kain or Vampire: The Masquerade. Of course, we don’t know that for sure, but it certainly looks like that’s the type of game Dontnod is looking to make with Vampyr.

Vampyr is set to release at some point in 2017 for the Xbox One, PC, and PS4, and it’s one of our most anticipated upcoming RPGs.
