Holy Bull winner Irish War Cry re-establishes himself with a win by daylight in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct!
Irish War Cry is the winner of the 2017 Wood Memorial. Battalion Runner came in second. Cloud Computing came in third place. True Timber finishes up in fourth. Heavy will have the full results as soon as they are released.
Irish War Cry finished comfortably ahead of Battalion Runner. According to NBC Sports, the unofficial time is 1:50.91
There were 180 points at stake at the Wood Memorial. Irish War Cry picked up 100 points and will advance to the Kentucky Derby. Battalion Runner is awarded 50 points. Cloud Computing receives 20 points while True Timber gets 10 points.
The top three horses from the Wood Memorial are expected to have enough points to make the Kentucky Derby.
Cloud Computing and Battalion Runner entered the race as two of the favorites, but Irish War Cry was able to get the victory with 7-2 odds. The horse was able to bounce back from a poor performance in the Fountain of Youth. The horse is trained by Graham Motion.
According to Daily Racing Forum, the purse dropped to $750,000 this year down from its previous $1 million number. The race has not produced a top-three finisher at Churchill Downs since 2003.
