Charles Blackmon: Everything you need to know

The Rockies announced Saturday that Blackmon has been hired as a special assistant to general manager Bill Schmidt, Arnie Melendrez Stapleton of the Associated Press reports. Blackmon announced his retirement this past September, shortly before he wrapped up his 14-year playing career. The 38-year-old spent the entirety of his career with the Rockies and will now remain in the organization as a member of the front office. Blackmon served primarily as the Rockies' designated hitter against right-handed pitching last season, but his retirement could pave the way for the oft-injured Kris Bryant to see more frequent starts in a non-defensive role in 2025.

Blackmon went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a sacrifice fly and two additional runs during Thursday's 10-8 win over the Cardinals. Blackmon tagged Kyle Gibson fora two-run home run in the second inning, marking the outfielder's third home run in six games and his 12th long ball of the campaign. Since announcing Monday he'd be retiring at the end of the 2024 season, Blackmon is 5-for-10 with a double, a terrible, a home run and four RBI.

Blackmon went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI on Tuesday against the Cardinals. Blackmon announced his retirement Monday and followed that up with a vintage performance a day later. His .318 wOBA and 91 wRC+ for the season match his career-worst marks, though he could be intriguing in the final week of the campaign as the Rockies finish the schedule at Coors Field. Meanwhile, Blackmon has maintained a .375 wOBA and .220 ISO at home this season.
