George Sheehan: Everything you need to know

Sheehan (3-1) earned the win over San Francisco on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters over six innings. Sheehan didn't give up a hit until the fourth inning and entered the fifth with a 2-0 lead. The Giants tied the score in that frame, but that wasn't entirely Sheehan's fault -- Jung Hoo Lee hit a two-out blooper to left field that was misplayed by Teoscar Hernandez for an inside-the-park, two-run homer. Sheehan responded nicely with a 1-2-3 frame in his sixth and final inning, and Los Angeles plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to move him into position for the win. The quality start was the third of the season for Sheehan, who had gone just 4.2 innings in each of his previous two outings. He's at a 4.54 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 49:12 K:BB over 41.2 innings spanning eight starts this season.

Sheehan allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Friday. Sheehan pitched well but got into a jam in the fifth inning. He was pulled at 88 pitches (64 strikes), and Alex Vesia was able to escape the trouble with no damage done. Sheehan has fallen short of the five-inning mark in consecutive starts, and he's gone four outings without a win despite allowing a modest eight runs across 20.2 innings in that span. For the season, he's at a 4.79 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 43:10 K:BB through 35.2 innings across seven starts. As long as the walk rate stays down, Sheehan should continue to improve. His next start is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Giants.

Sheehan (2-1) took the loss Friday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on eight hits, including two home runs, across 4.2 innings. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk. Sheehan has posted an impressive 18:1 K:BB in 11 innings over his last two starts, but even with the strikeouts Friday, he endured arguably his worst outing since his season debut, when he allowed four runs on 3.1 frames in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on March 27. Through six starts, Sheehan has gone 2-1 with a 5.23 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 36:9 K:BB in 31 innings. He's a good source of strikeouts, but he's struggled with run prevention, allowing three or more earned runs in four of his six appearances thus far. Sheehan is slated to make his next start on the road against the Astros.
