Kenneth Hill: Breaking News

Hill recorded a hold Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning and allowing one hit and two walks with a strikeout in a 3-2 win over the Astros. Hill was a steady presence for the Rockies last season after getting called up in late July. The right-hander has already appeared in nine games this season in a higher-leverage role and has only given up one run, way back in his first appearance March 28. He has issued at least one walk in four of his nine outings, however, producing a 7:5 K:BB in 7.2 innings.

The Rockies recalled Hill from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Hill will be up with Colorado for the second time this season after he previously made three relief appearances out of the big-league bullpen in April. The right-hander has maintained excellent ratios (3.72 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 28:3 K:BB) in 17.2 innings at Triple-A this season, but he'll likely operate as a low-leverage reliever for the Rockies initially.

The Rockies optioned Hill to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. The move makes room on the 26-man roster for Bradley Blalock, who will start against the Reds on Sunday. Hill has made three appearances out of the Rockies bullpen this season, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five across 2.2 innings. The 25-year-old should return to the majors at some point this season.
