Kyle Freeland: Breaking News

Freeland took a no-decision Sunday against Milwaukee, surrendering three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out two across five innings. Freeland appeared on track for one of his better outings of the season after holding Milwaukee to just one run through five innings, but back-to-back hits to open the sixth inning ended his day. The inherited runner he left on base eventually came around to score as the Brewers erupted for seven runs in the frame. The outing was still a memorable one for the veteran left-hander, as he raised his career innings total to 1,313.1 to become the Rockies' all-time franchise leader in innings pitched. However, the milestone comes amid a difficult season, as Freeland now owns a 7.81 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 53 innings. A home start scheduled next against the Athletics offers little fantasy appeal, as Freeland's command and ability to miss bats continues to trend in the wrong direction.

Freeland did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Angels. He struck out four. Freeland was done in by a five-run third inning headlined by a Jose Siri grand slam, with all five runs coming with two outs in the frame. After a positive three-start stretch to open the season, the southpaw has struggled mightily, posting a 10.86 ERA and 2.01 WHIP across 32.1 innings over his past seven outings. His overall numbers now sit at an 8.06 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 43:15 K:BB across 48 innings. Freeland's next start is tentatively lined up for Sunday against the Brewers, though his significant struggles leave him far from fantasy relevance.

Freeland (1-6) allowed eight runs on nine hits and a hit batsman while striking out four and walking none over four innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers. Freeland pitched well early in the season, but he hasn't looked the same since he returned from shoulder inflammation. He's allowed at least four runs in in five of his six starts since he came off the injured list, with Tuesday's outing being a new low point for him this season. He has an ugly 8.08 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 39:14 K:BB through 42.1 innings over nine starts. Trusting any Rockies pitcher is tough in fantasy, but Freeland's even struggling on the road this year, making him a risky option even in favorable matchups.
