Thomas Henry: Everything you need to know

The Diamondbacks re-signed Henry (elbow) to a minor-league contract Monday. Henry was non-tendered by Arizona last month, but the two sides have reunited on a minor-league pact. The left-hander missed much of 2025 due to injury and could be out for all of next season following Tommy John surgery in June. Henry holds a career 5.07 ERA over 37 appearances (32 starts) at the big-league level.

Henry is likely to miss the entire 2026 season while recovering from a Tommy John procedure he underwent in June, so it comes as little surprise to see the D-backs decline to offer him a contract for the upcoming year. The 28-year-old southpaw will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal once he approaches the end of his recovery after posting an 8.12 ERA and 1.79 WHIP over 54.1 innings at Triple-A Reno in 2025.

The Diamondbacks designated Henry (elbow) for assignment Tuesday. Henry is slated to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. His lengthy expected absence makes it unlikely that another team will be willing to pick him up off waivers, so the D-backs will take the opportunity to remove the injured lefty from their 40-man roster while protecting four prospects from the Rule 5 Draft.
