Penrod agreed to a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Monday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Penrod began the 2025 campaign in the Red Sox organization before being traded to the Dodgers in June. He ended the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he posted an 8.65 ERA and 2.42 WHIP with a 23:30 K:BB across 26.0 innings.
The Dodgers outrighted Penrod to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday. Penrod cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. The lefty has a 4.85 ERA with a 7:13 K:BB over 13 innings at Oklahoma City since being acquired via trade from the Red Sox in late June.
The Red Sox traded Penrod to the Dodgers on Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Penrod was designated for assignment by Boston on Sunday, but he'll get a fresh start with the Dodgers. The 28-year-old has spent the entire 2025 campaign in the minor leagues. He's only thrown 6.1 innings at Triple-A Worcester after spending around two months on the injured list to start the year due to a UCL sprain. Penrod logged a 2.25 ERA in four big-league innings in 2024. Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Red Sox got cash in return.
