UFC 143: Edwards-Stumpf Scratched, Stittgen vs. Thompson Booked

Justin Edwards

Newcomers added to Super Bowl weekend card

A welterweight match up between Justin Edwards and Mike Stumpf has been scratched from UFC 143 due to injuries to both fighters. The bout has been replaced with Dan Stittgen vs. Stephen Thompson.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the change on Friday.

Stittgen, who is 7-1 as a professional, has walked away with the victory every time except for a loss to Edwards in 2010. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak.

His opponent, nicknamed “Wonderboy,” is a perfect 5-0 as a professional. His first three contests all ended via stoppage, while his two most recent wins came by decision.

UFC 143 is set for Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The card’s headliner features an interim welterweight title bout between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz.
