After President Donald Trump mocked Arnold Schwarzenegger during a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Schwarzenegger has issued a response, saying that he should be president instead of Trump.
Trump spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast this morning and took the time to mock Schwarzenegger for the ratings of The Apprentice this season, which he said have been “a total disaster.” Within an hour, Schwarzenegger responded with a brief Instagram video.
“Hey Donald, I have a great idea,” Schwarzenegger said. “Why don’t we switch jobs? You take over TV, since you’re such an expert at ratings, and I take over your job so people can finally sleep comfortably again.”
Schwarzenegger took over as the host of The Apprentice last month. Though he is a Republican, Schwarzenegger publicly denounced Trump after the release of the infamous Access Hollywood tape on which Trump brags about sexually assaulting women.
“[A]s proud as I am to label myself a Republican, there is one label that I hold above all else – American,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement at the time. “So I want to take a moment today to remind my fellow Republicans that it is not only acceptable to choose your country over your party – it is your duty.”
This speech at the National Prayer Breakfast was not the first time that Trump has criticized Schwarzenegger for his role as host of The Apprentice. Last month, Trump tweeted that Schwarzenegger got destroyed in the ratings, adding, “who cares, he supported Kasich & Hillary.”
Schwarzenegger responded at the time by saying that Trump should work for the American people as aggressively as he works for his Apprentice ratings.
Schwarzenegger has said that he would have run for president in 2020 if he were eligible; he cannot be president because he was born in Austria.
