It’s difficult for any team to call a single game a “must-win,” so that’s why the Washington Redskins are referring to their matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as “code red” instead. It’s not exactly the same thing, but it means pretty much the same; the Redskins need a win.
Washington is facing, arguably, the toughest stretch of its schedule and a victory over the Bucs is necessary if the squad is going to have any hope of getting into some kind of mid-season rhythm.
That means that the Redskins defense needs to bend but not break, the run game needs to find some consistency and, most importantly, Kirk Cousins needs to stop throwing interceptions. Cousins threw two picks in last week’s 34-20 loss to the New York Jets and now has eight interceptions in his six games as the Redskins starter.
That’s got to change and it’s got to change quick. That won’t be easy though. The Bucs allow just over 200 passing yards per game, the fourth fewest in the entire NFL. Code red indeed.
