AC Milan meet Inter on Sunday, in what is normally a meeting for the top of the Serie A table. But Inter have fallen down to fourth in the new year, and AC Milan are fighting to get back into European contention.
The Rossoneri are currently in sixth place, curbed by a lack of consistent offense. They haven’t scored more than 2 goals in a game in 2016, and needed a late-winner from Balotelli to take the lead over Alessandria in their Coppa Italia semifinal.
As sluggish as AC Milan have been on offense, Inter have been worse. They’ve struggled in Serie A recently, dropping points to lower sides Sassuolo and Carpi. As always they’ll rely on their defense in today’s derby, as Inter have allowed just 14 goals in 21 league matches. Inter are currently fourth in the table, tied with Fiorentina at 41 points.
