Northern Ireland have never beaten Ukraine, but it’s their best possible chance for points in Group C play. Beaten by Germany and with Poland on the schedule, three points are also mandatory for Ukraine if they want to continue into Euro’s knockout round.
Both teams entered Euro on unbeaten runs, which were promptly snapped in the opening weekend. Ukraine held tight with Germany, but conceded late and couldn’t respond to the reigning World Cup champions. Northern Ireland couldn’t get it going against Poland, falling 1-0. Michael O’Neill’s squad struggled against Poland’s defense, mustering just one shot in total.
These teams last met in competitive play in Euro 2004 qualifying, when they played two scoreless draws.
