Two of the best teams in Spain meet for a midweek fixture when Atletico Madrid look for their first victory at Camp Nou since 2006.
Barcelona’s most recent match with Atletico ended in disappointment, as Atletico scored a 2-0 victory to knock the Catalans out of the Champions League. Barcelona still had the last laugh however, as they finished winning the domestic double while Atletico fell in the Champions League final to Real Madrid.
It’s early in the Primera season, and both teams are playing as expected. Barcelona is the highest scoring team in the league, and has outscored their previous two opponents 12-1. Atletico started the season with two draws, but the side still have not conceded a goal through four league matches.
For all his successes with Atleti, Diego Simeone has yet to win in nine league meetings with Barcelona. The Champions League wins are nice, but three points over Barcelona in this young season would go a long way in what is usually a tight Spanish table.
