Southampton is in the League Cup final for the first time since 1979, and has a chance to win their first trophy since 1976. To win at Wembley they’ll need to defeat Manchester United, who already have four League Cup trophies in their massive cabinet.
The EFL Cup Final will be held February 26, 2017 at Wembley Stadium. All tickets for the final are distributed by the qualifying clubs, so it’s not an easy ticket to get.
United and Southampton met in the early goings of the season, with Mourinho’s United winning 2-0. The reverse fixture is scheduled for March 12. south
Both clubs entered the season with new managers, and those managers promptly went in opposite directions. United and Mourinho won the FA Community Shield and their first three Premier League fixtures, while Claude Puel didn’t get his first Premier League victory with Southampton until it’s fifth attempt.
That stretch included an early Europa League exit courtesy of Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva. The winner of the EFL Cup Final will secure a place in Europa League for the 2017-18 season.
Southampton might be turning things around under Puel, but the Cup is United’s to lose. The early prediction is a 3-1 United victory.
