WrestleMania 33 is just a few hours away on the WWE Network. If Survivor Series is any indication, the match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar is looking to be a pretty short one. But will it beat the record for the shortest match ever in WrestleMania history? And what match holds the record for the longest match?
The longest WrestleMania match in history was the main event of WrestleMania 12, a match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart which lasted 61 minutes and 52 seconds. This was a 60-minute Iron Man match that went into sudden death overtime.
This match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart was quite well received, and in 2011, Bleacher Report argued that it is the greatest match of all time.
“In the end, while many contests have come and gone, the greatest of them all was the Iron Man match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart at WrestleMania XII,” Bleacher Report said. “A story between the two slowly budding rivals centered around the WWE Title that brought them to that stage, but it doesn’t matter because the match itself told the true story of the greatest contest in wrestling history.”
Meanwhile, the shortest match in WrestleMania history actually happened last year. The match that holds that record is the one at WrestleMania 32 between The Rock and Erick Rowan, which was only six seconds long.
Before WrestleMania 32, the title of shortest WrestleMania match went to the ECW Championship match between Kane and Chavo Guerrero at WrestleMania 24, which was only 11 seconds long.
The third shortest WrestleMania match is the WrestleMania 6 tag team championship match between The Hart Foundation and the Bolsheviks, which was 19 seconds long.
Some other notably short matches from WrestleMania history include WrestleMania 28’s match between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan, which was 18 seconds long, and WrestleMania 25’s match between Rey Mysterio defeated John Layfield, which was 21 seconds long
And the shortest WrestleMania main event in history came at WrestleMania 9, at which the main event between Hulk Hogan and Yokozuna was 22 seconds long.
